San Lucas Toliman Mission is located on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Isa Mundo Foundation visited the school, which provides for roughly 600 children. The Mission also has a reforestation project, a clinic and a women’s center, which is currently under construction.

The San Lucas School offers education for pre-school, primary and secondary level children and has various resources available for the students, including a library and a small computer lab.  Many of the children in San Lucas cannot afford schooling; however, the San Lucas School offers education for a minimal fee providing the children with opportunities for a better future.

Isa Mundo Foundation visited the Mission’s coffee plantation which works directly with local community farmers who produce coffee on their own land. The Mission ensures that these workers receive fair trade prices for their harvest and all returns go directly to the farmers and the community, which helps support the local economy.  Isa Mundo believes that shade grown, fair trade and community involvement in every level of coffee production are important aspects of environmental sustainability.  Isa Mundo hopes to develop a partnership with the Mission to export coffee for distribution to various coffee retailers in Canada and supporting environmentally sustainable food production.
